Apr 14, 2025

Keep your study of Weather simple with these resources:

Nature Study Hacking| Weather, Wind & Water

Provides 24 lessons for an introduction to WEATHER, WIND & WATER. Based on Handbook of Nature Study, this guide simplifies the introduction weather, wind and water. (This page contains affiliate links.)

ESSENTIALS:

I don't recommend reading the Handbook of Nature Study selections on this topic because of just how much technology has changed weather forecasting to simplify the process.

I recommend these books as read aloud throughout this study.

Introduction to Weather:

You can get by with just these two books as an introduction especially if you use the video recommendations below:

Weather Words and What They Mean by Gail Gibbons

Weather Forecasting by Gail Gibbons

Stories about weather:

I've ranked them in order from most approachable to harder reading:

  1. The Lost Art of Reading Nature Signs by Tristan Gooley
  2. Look at the Sky… and tell the weather by Eric Sloane
  3. Eric Sloane’s Weather Book by Eric Sloane

Weather Nature Study Supply List:

Blank Journal - Minimalism Art sketchbook or Dot grid notebook (This my favorite brand)

  1. Ticonderoga pencils and an eraser
  2. Prisma colored pencils (preferred for younger children)
  3. Field Guide
  4. Books about the Weather (see list above)
