Nature Study Hacking| MAMMALS Resources and Links
Jan 07, 2026Keep Mammals Nature Study Simple with these resources:
Nature Study Hacking | Mammals
Based on Handbook of Nature Study, this guide simplifies the introduction of these common mammals: cottontail rabbit, squirrel, fox, cat, dog, horse, and brown bat. (This page contains affiliate links.)
If you were only going to buy TWO books in addition to Handbook of Nature Study to go with Nature Study Hacking| Mammals, these are the ones I recommend:
- Wildlife Folklore by Laura C. Martin
- A Golden Guide: Mammals by Donald F. Hoffmeister
Mammals Supply List:
- Minimalism Art sketchbook or Dot grid notebook (This my favorite brand)
- Ticonderoga pencils and an eraser
- Prisma colored pencils (preferred for younger children)
- Because mammals are much more difficult to observe up close we will stick with domestic mammals for closer observations. You may be able to see cottontail rabbits or squirrels near your home to watch their habits from afar. You may also watch videos of each animal to help with your observations when the real thing isn't available.
